What should I do in a dental emergency?

Although teeth are hard wearing and very strong, they are also vulnerable to injury, trauma and decay. Injuries, accidents and dental problems can occur at any time. Common causes of dental pain include accidents/falls, sports injuries, trauma through fighting and abscesses caused by bacterial infections.

It’s a good idea to learn how to deal with an emergency situation as they can happen at any time and in any place. Emergency treatment is not usually necessary for a chipped tooth but if you are experiencing severe pain or it is gradually becoming worse, please phone the practice and ask to see a dentist as soon as possible.

For patients on our membership plan, we are able to offer complimentary worldwide dental emergency cover allowing you to access dental care wherever you may be – please ask one of our team members for more details.

What our patients say

Feeling glad! Read our glowing reviews from our valued patients, sharing their experiences and sparkling smiles with us.

Was an amazing experience since the first appointment where I had my dental plan put in place. Was super understanding with my situation and what work I wanted to have done. All the staff I had met during my 3 appointments were very nice and provided a great service overall.

Great practice and would highly recommend!! I had been going to another dentist for a while but didn’t seem to explain anything or help me with options. Decided to come to Eccleshill Dental. Was amazed. I had a 40 min examination and then went through all my issues. They broke it down to things that I ‘needed’ to do and then discussed things that might ...

I would like say a massive thank you to Karan at Eccleshill Dental for giving me the confidence to smile again. The dental work I had done was not a straight forward procedure. FAQs

What should I do if I lose a tooth or it is knocked out?

Phone the practice as quickly as possible and one of our dentists may be able to save the tooth. If you have the tooth, store it in a glass of milk or hold it in between your cheek and gum while you wait to be seen (this is not advisable for children as they may risk swallowing it).

I think I have broken my jaw bone, what should I do?

If you have suffered an accident and you experience pain in your jaw or suspect that it may be broken, visit the nearest Accident and Emergency department.

How do I know if my symptoms require emergency treatment?

If you are in severe dental pain, or have lost a tooth, it is very likely that you will need emergency treatment. We don’t want you to suffer with pain, and you may require urgent treatment. Please contact us as soon as possible. We are always happy to advise you – it is far better to be safe than sorry!

We will ask you to pay this over the phone upon booking your appointment with us.

The fee for the Emergency Assessment with one of our dentists is as quoted above. We may ask you to pay this over the phone when booking the appointment with us. This fee is for investigation, diagnosis & discussion of the specific complaint you have attended with. In addition, this fee includes discussion of the treatment options available to you along with the benefits and negatives of these options.

What happens if I need further treatment?

After diagnosis and discussion of your problem, the dentist will detail the treatment options and pros/cons of any treatment. If you are happy to proceed, we will provide a treatment plan detailing costs and payment will be taken before completion of the treatment. Regrettably, we have had non-payment in the past despite successful completion of treatment, so we have to amend our processes accordingly.
